KPS ORHAN ALI KHAN

Major Conversion : Bulk Carrier to Floating Power Plant (Powership)

289 m long and 45 m wide bulk carrier has been converted to a floating power plant by installation of 21 sets of gen-sets and 2 sets of steam turbine generators providing a total electricity production rate of 415 mV. The conversion includes installation of complete set of machinery, their auxiliaries, piping, modification of existing structures for reinforcement and electric production related switchyard and transformers.

Design & Practice

The basic and detailed design engineering were performed by Owner's design contractor and approved by BV as the Vessel's classification society. Production engineering for prefabrication and fabrication were carried out by Gemak Group's own in-house design department including method studies and statements for installation works.

Work Description

Prefabrication and installation of 7.200 tons of steel structure and 1.500 tons of piping.

Blasting and painting of fabricated steel parts and piping in Gemak Group's own in-house blasting and painting facility.

Conversion of No.1 cargo hold and topside ballast tanks to FO storage tanks.

Storage, transfer and installation of 21 gensets, their exh. gas boilers and 2 steam turbine generators as main machinery.

Storage, transfer and installation of 888 auxiliary machinery and equipments.

Modification of hull and ballast tanks for creation of sea chests of newly installed gensets.

Modification of inner botoom structure to provide reinforcement for newly installed machinery.

Installation of switchyard and hybrid platform above main deck for electricity distribution.

Installation of exhaust tower above main deck for boilers and exhaust piping system including fabrication and installation of 21 denox units for emission control.

Complete blasting and painting of holds and hull.
